The Parish of St Helier won a major national award on the 6th of October 1999 for its efforts to promote tourism by keeping the environment clean and beautiful.
The Constable of St Helier, Mr Bob Le Brocq, led the parish team at the Tidy Britain Group, Britain in Bloom Ceremony in Harrogate where they were presented with The British Tourist Authority Award.
The parish was narrowly defeated by Bury St Edmunds in the large town category .
