Robert Weston, local hotelier & President of the Jersey Hospitality Association, has confirmed that he WILL be a candidate in the forthcoming Senatorial by-election in Jersey to be held on Wednesday 24th March He intends to stand on a two-tier policy: Firstly, to encourage the Island's return, as quickly as possible, to a buoyant economy. This must be based on maintaining a sound financial services industry, whilst working to ensure the survival of both our secondary and our emerging industries and thus to achieve an early return to full employment. Secondly, to oppose the Finance & Economics Committee budget proposals in their present "tax and spend" form, until we have first given a great deal more consideration to alternative options, such as much more cutting back on government expenditure and improving government efficiency. Mr Weston urges all those, who are concerned to protect their own jobs, to turn out on polling day to vote, as those who fail to vote cannot reasonably complain afterwards if the wrong candidate is elected. |
